A Taste of Greece: Athenian Wine Pairing & Hidden Delicacies Walk

3 hours

Easy

Discover the flavors of the Modern Greek Vineyard alongside a savory walking exploration of Athens' most authentic culinary and market heart.

Begin your immersive journey by connecting with the essence of Greece’s storied winemaking tradition. We'll meet at a welcoming local café/bar in the heart of the historical center for a private, 60-minute guided wine tasting. You will sample three glasses of 75ml of exquisite regional Greek wines, exploring indigenous unique varieties like Assyrtiko, Xinomavro, and Savvatiano. You will learn the art of discerning quality, understand the history of the Modern Greek vineyard, and discover the diverse terroirs that make Greek wine celebrated globally.

Energized by the tasting, we step out to join the vibrant, waking gastronomic life of central Athens. Our culinary walk picks up with a taste of the beloved Bougatsa (a flaky Greek pastry, often filled with sweet custard or savory feta cheese) from an artisan specialist. We’ll then navigate the bustling lanes, offering a privileged pass into the city's culinary soul, taking you beyond main tourist paths to discover the real, everyday flavors that define local life.

The experience culminates in the authentic hustle of the Varvakeios Municipal Market. Here, you’ll feel the true pulse of the city, enjoying a traditional Mezé plate with an authentic local spirit. We will stop by a seasonal farmers market (Laiki) for fresh produce and conclude the experience with a final, satisfying bite of a legendary Spanakopita, leaving you nourished and informed about the true Athenian lifestyle and the famed Mediterranean diet.
